Now in its fifth year in Waterloo/Cedar Falls, Speaking of Women’s Health is a very special fundraising and friendraising event for Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare - Covenant Foundation. Women who learn together, grow together. Covenant Foundation has partnered with the National Speaking of Women’s Health Foundation to help women across Iowa be strong, be healthy and be in charge.
Speaking of Women’s Health helps educate women about the power of their health, well-being and personal safety.
What makes Speaking of Women’s Health so special is our heritage and our understanding of the unique psychology of women. We know that women who are interested in improving their health seek fair-balanced, credible information from health experts. We also know that women like to be pampered and they like to be together in an environment of learning and camaraderie.
Moms, sisters, girlfriends, co-workers, aunts, grandmothers, children...they’re your support system. The women you laugh with when times are easy and the first ones you call when you need advice. These are your Everyday Super Heroes.

 Dr. Jenkins
Biography: Marjorie R. Jenkins MD Dr. Marjorie Jenkins graduated with honors in Chemical Engineering from Tennessee Tech University She was the valedictorian graduate of the James H. Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University and completed the Internal Medicine residency program at the University of Cincinnati. She is a member of multiple honor societies including Phi Kappa Phi, Tau Beta Pi and Alpha Omega Alpha. Dr. Jenkins joined TTUHSC in 2001 to build a women ’s health program. Since joining TTUHSC Amarillo Dr. Jenkins has developed the women’s health division and a women’s health fellowship training program (one of 20 in the nation). She has been the catalyst in bringing a bilingual daylong Hispanic Women’s Health Symposium to Amarillo. Now in its fourth year the Hablando de la Salud de la Mujer has grown from 350 to 800 participants. Dr. Jenkins was promoted to Associate Professor of Internal Medicine in 2004. Dr. Jenkins along with other WH faculty developed the Center for Women’s Health and Gender-Based Medicine. The Center opened in October 2007 and focuses on treating the whole woman and applying the rapidly increasing knowledge of gender-specific medicine to design an optimal treatment plan. Medical students and residents spend time in the Center to obtain training in the care of the woman. She was approached and developed a women’s health and gender-specific medicine textbook for students and residents for McGraw-Hill publishers. In early 2007, Dr. Jenkins and TTUHSC leaders began an effort to establish a multi-campus women’s health institute. Dr. Jenkins worked with many individuals on the various campuses to develop a proposal, a vision really, to establish the Laura W. Bush Institute for Women’s Health. Mrs. Laura Bush, a strong women’s health advocate, was approached with the request to place our women’s health research and education efforts under the Laura W. Bush Institute for Women’s Health, a six campus institute over 140,000 square miles of West Texas. In November 2007 the TTUHSC Laura W. Bush Institute for Women’s Health was formally launched. Dr. Jenkins now serves as Executive Director of the Laura W. Bush Institute for Women’s Health. In this capacity she was nominated and invited to speak about women’s health and research at the 2008 Business and Professional Leadership Summit in Washington DC chaired by Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison. Dr. Jenkins clinical practice spans women in all stages of life thus she deals with mothers and daughters and the issues that occur as each of them enter different life stages. Wife to Steve and mother to Katharine (13), Matthew and Rebecca (9) Dr. Jenkins is now appreciating firsthand how wonderful and complex these transitions can be. |

WHAT:
Speaking of Women’s Health is an interactive health education experience, that pampers attendees and teaches them important information about their health, well-being and personal safety. It’s not a health fair or an expo; it’s an unique learning environment featuring top local and national experts (to be announced) on women’s health. Add to that a relaxing spa-like atmosphere, health screenings, extraordinary gifts and an elegant lunch and an opportunity to create a day they won’t forget long after the full day event.
WHO:
